Economic Mobility

For over 45 years, Xiente has walked alongside families navigating poverty—offering education, housing, youth development, and wraparound support. But experience has taught us that meeting immediate needs is not enough. To truly transform lives, we must go further: we must create pathways to economic mobility.

What Is Economic Mobility?

Economic mobility is the ability of individuals or families to improve their economic status over time, whether by increasing income, building assets, or breaking generational cycles of poverty.

It’s about more than getting by—it’s about moving forward. It’s about ensuring that where you start in life does not determine where you end up.

We’re creating generational wealth because we don’t want our children to struggle like us.

Why It Matters at Xiente

After four decades of serving over 20,000 individuals in historically under-resourced communities, we recognized a pattern: without intentional, long-term strategies for mobility, families often remain trapped in survival mode.

That realization gave rise to the Prosperity Project—our bold, place-based initiative designed to move families from crisis to stability to prosperity. Rooted in our community organizing origins, this project builds on the lessons of our past while confronting the barriers of today.

This program helped me reconnect and create bigger and better opportunities for me and my children.

Our Approach to Mobility

Through the Prosperity Project, we address the key drivers of economic mobility:

  • Human Capital – early learning, youth education, and workforce development
  • Social Capital – peer networks, mentorship, and community engagement
  • Financial Capital – financial literacy, savings, credit-building, and guaranteed income
  • Advocacy & Systems Change – advancing policies that support long-term stability

I used to feel lost… but now I feel more confident in my decisions because I have the information.

From History to Horizon

Our legacy is rooted in mutual aid, grassroots leadership, and standing in solidarity with families. But our future demands more:

  • Strategic, multi-generational interventions
  • Data-driven results that center lived experience
  • Scalable, community-led solutions

Economic mobility is our framework for dignity, equity, and progress. It’s how we build a future where every child, every parent, and every community has a chance—not just to survive, but to thrive.
